About TSSG Academy

TSSG Academy was established to professionalise Barbados' security sector from within. We are not a general vocational college that happens to offer security courses. We are a specialist institution, built and led by security professionals who have spent their careers in the industry: in operations, consulting, investigations, risk management, and corporate security leadership.

The academy operates as a division of T.S.S.G (Barbados) Ltd, a security services company co-founded in 2017 and recognised across Barbados for its commitment to professional standards.

Our flagship qualification, the Security Management Professional Programme, is a 10-unit, 400-contact-hour programme delivered over approximately 30 weeks: among the most comprehensive security management qualifications available in Barbados.

It exceeds the contact hours of comparable programmes across the Caribbean and internationally, including the UK Security Industry Authority entry-level qualification (42 hours) and the IFPO Certified Protection Officer certification (approximately 80 hours).

We pursue dual accreditation: recognition by the Barbados Accreditation Council domestically, and international recognition through IFPO Approved Training Partner status and curriculum alignment with ASIS International.

Our model is digital-first. We deliver through Praxis by TSSG Academy, our own course delivery platform, maintain a digital resource library, and archive focus group sessions and assessments for ongoing institutional development. Small cohort sizes of 20 are a deliberate design choice: every student receives meaningful attention and reaches the competency standard the programme requires.

Designed for practising security officers, this on-site workshop addresses the core operational competencies that determine daily performance on the ground. Our Pedagogy

How We Teach

Learning at TSSG Academy is built around a simple principle: adults learn best when they are actively engaged with material that is directly relevant to their working lives.

Every unit follows a structured two-part delivery pattern. The first part is direct instruction over 20 hours. The second part, also 20 hours, is a structured focus group in which students work through real-world scenarios, case studies, and practical challenges in small groups under expert facilitation. This 1:2 ratio is uncommon in security training: by the time a student completes a unit, they have spent as much time practising and discussing as being taught.

Dr. Lightbourne's career spans more than two decades across four continents. As Head of Security at Caribbean Gaming Technologies, he led 75 officers over five years, achieving zero casualties, zero fatalities, and zero robberies across a USD$400 million cash-in-transit operation.

As a Special Reserve Police Officer with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, he received a Medal of Recognition at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit. At Petrotrin he worked across a 3,000-person energy facility alongside domestic and foreign government agencies on classified anti-terrorism operations. His consultancy has served over 115 clients across six regions, and his Global Network Partner status with INSECOGO Worldwide ensures the academy's curriculum reflects current global intelligence. He holds a DBA in Security Executive Leadership, an MSc in Information Security Management, an MSc in Strategic Management, and a BSc in Security Administration Management.

Kemar John has 18 years of experience in the security sector, beginning as a security officer at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, where he served for nine years, before co-founding T.S.S.G (Barbados) Ltd in 2017.

Between 2012 and 2017, he worked as a private security consultant and event security specialist across Barbados. He holds two Caribbean Vocational Qualifications awarded by the TVET Council Barbados, recognised across the CARICOM framework. As a TVET-certified Assessor, he has assessed candidates completing the Caribbean Vocational Qualification in Providing Security Services, and has delivered security training at BIMAP and the Career Development Institute.

Recognition

Accreditation and Professional Recognition

Pursuing formal accreditation on two tracks (one domestic, one international) so that every qualification the academy awards carries weight both in Barbados and beyond.

Barbados Accreditation Council

The national body responsible for recognising post-secondary and tertiary institutions in Barbados. TSSG Academy is progressing through the BAC registration and programme approval pathway.

IFPO Approved Training Partner

IFPO credentials are held by over 160,000 professionals globally and acknowledged by the US Department of Labor as Industry Recognised Credentials. TSSG Academy is pursuing ATP status, allowing graduates to earn a dual credential on completion.

ASIS International Alignment

The Security Management Professional Programme is being aligned with ASIS International competency domains, giving graduates a clear pathway toward the Associate Protection Professional and Certified Protection Professional examinations.

 A note on current status: TSSG Academy is an operational training institution actively progressing toward formal accreditation. The Security Management Professional Programme is fully developed and currently in delivery. Students who enrol before formal BAC approval is granted will receive a TSSG Academy certificate upon completion, recognised when formal accreditation is awarded.

Past corporate clients include the Barbados Community College Security Department, for whom we developed and delivered an eight-module, 56-hour Core Operational Refresher Training Programme addressing patrol discipline, access control, search procedures, threat detection, CCTV operations, emergency response, report writing, legal compliance, and QR Patrol Gold end-user certification.

A corporate training engagement begins with a needs assessment to understand what your team currently does, what gaps exist, and what standard you are working toward. Every corporate programme includes professionally designed learning materials, structured assessment, and individual certificates of completion. We can also provide a post-programme outcomes report suitable for your HR records and any regulatory or licensing obligations.

Affiliate partner for CCTV training: For specialist CCTV operations training, we work in partnership with Security Cameras (Barbados) Ltd. Practicum components carry a separate affiliate certificate.
